Burkitt’s Cancer Discovery

Dennis Burkitt, M.D. of London, England for whom Burkitt’s Lymphoma is named, was one of the world’s most outstanding cancer specialists in medical history. Most of his work was done in Africa during the 1940s. In one of his publications, he reported on a group of American oncologists who visited his hospital in Africa. They left him with a large supply of chemotherapeutic drugs and instructions for use. Dr. Burkitt reported that for the first few years, all his efforts in treating cancer with the drugs ended in the death of his patients with one exception. A young African man was so frightened of the drug, he ran away from the hospital after his first injection and lived in the bush. Several years later, some of the hospital personnel recognized the man, reporting he was alive and well.

From this one survivor, Dr. Burkitt concluded that American chemotherapeutic drugs did have anticancer effects by stimulating the body’s immune system, but the Americans did not know how to use them properly. They were guilty of overkill, of making doses too large and in giving too many dosages, eventually destroying the body’s immune system and ability to heal itself from that point forward. From then on, Dr. Burkitt gave no more than one or two injections of a low dosage; just enough to stimulate the immune system. He then began witnessing recoveries from his cancer patients.

Dr. Burkitt was right. There is never a need to ‘kill’ every last cancer cell. This is impossible, anyway. Many cancer researchers believe all humans are born with cancer cells predisposed in our bodies but they are only able to grow and manifest as tumors when oxygen levels are low due to high levels of toxicity in the body, or when the immune system is impaired.

When fighting cancer or any degenerative disease, try the ‘shot gun approach.’ Investigate every healing methodology you can, both traditional and alternative medicine, and something should work. If you can decipher which method or methods were responsible for your healing success, that’s even better so you will know for sure what to accredit. But if it’s hard to determine if one or a combination of many healing methods was responsible for your healing, then so be it. At least you healed and have a plan to help others. Just remember there are many alternatives to both allopathic and naturopathic cancer remedies.

NUTRITIONAL BACKGROUND FOR DETOXING CANCER

In general, all cancer patients do better if they eliminate red meat during the recovery period. Many cancer patients, probably the majority, have impaired digestion due to either a lack of hydrochloric acid in the stomach or a lack of pancreatic digestive enzymes. Both are needed for the proper digestion of meat. If either is lacking, undigested or incomplete digested protein is picked up by the blood, adding toxicity to the body. Undigested protein is highly toxic.

Properly digested protein is not susceptible to anaerobic or putrefactive bacteria. Nonetheless, undigested protein is readily attacked by disease producing bacteria. This creates a series of toxic breakdown by-products, some of which are picked up by the blood, adding to the toxic load in the already diseased body.

There is evidence that all the pancreatic proteolytic (protein digesting) enzyme output is used up in the digestion of protein. None remains to circulate throughout the body where these enzymes can encounter and digest malignant cells or the ‘shell’ built around the cells.

When recovering from cancer, make it easy for your body to digest nutrients, and provide the proper dosage of drugs and cancer treatments to stimulate your immune system.

Gene Tied to Lung Cancer in Nonsmokers

A genetic mutation can leave some people vulnerable to lung cancer even if they never smoked, a new study finds.

The mutation occurs in the epidermal growth factor receptor (EFGR) gene, which signals cancerous cells to divide and grow. This gene variant can appear in high concentrations in lung cancer cells, even in those of people who don't smoke.

Scientists at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York City, made this link because two new cancer drugs, Iressa and Tarceva, are both most effective against lung cancers that have the mutation, according to their report in the Aug. 23-27 issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. New Compounds Fight Malaria, Prostate Cancer

Several new compounds modeled on an ancient Chinese folk remedy show promise in fighting malaria and some forms of cancer, according to researchers at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

"Preliminary data show that our laboratory-synthesized compounds have a therapeutic index -- the measure of a drug's safety and efficacy -- that is better, in some cases, many times better, in rodents than the drugs currently considered the gold standard for chemotherapy of both malaria and prostate cancer," Gary Posner, Scowe Professor of Chemistry at Hopkins' Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, said in a prepared statement.

"These results are preliminary, but exciting, and certainly worth pursuing," Posner said.

The compounds he and his colleagues designed, called trioxanes, are meant to mimic the action of the active agent in the Artemisia annua, or wormwood, plant. The plant has been used in China for thousands of years to treat malaria and other fevers. [MedicineNet Cancer General]

Colon Cancer, A New Test?

Stool samples were obtained from more than 200 people scheduled for a colonoscopy. The amount of an enzyme called M2-PK (pyruvate kinase) was measured in each stool sample. 60 of these people were diagnosed with colon cancer by colonoscopy. The level of M2-PK was higher in the stool samples in the cases of colon cancer. The higher the enzyme level, the more advanced the tumor was and the greater the chance that it had metastasized (spread).

Tea's soothing properties

Oolong, rooibos, sencha, chai. Not exactly what comes to mind when you think of tea.

In the West, we view tea as a beverage just like any other hot drink. Lipton's, Tetley's or Celestial Seasonings will do just fine. Add some milk, sugar and maybe some lemon to your brew and you've got the perfect comfort drink. But in Asia, tea has long been considered an essential component to a person's diet.

It is said that tea, Camellia sinensis, was accidentally discovered in 2737 BC in China by Emperor Shen Nung. The ruler was about to drink a mug of hot water when a few leaves from an overhanging tree blew into his beverage. He tried it, liked it and the rest is history.

Throughout the ages, tea has played an integral role in our collective history from the Dutch and Portuguese mercantilism of colonial times to the British East India Tea Company monopoly to the Boston Tea Party. Tea used to be such a hot commodity that people would hide their stash in tea caddies under lock and key.    Over the years, while it looks like coffee is king based on the ubiquitous Starbuck's on every corner, tea consumption is actually growing at a faster rate worldwide than ever before. B3 Niacin - It's A Rush To Flush

B3 Niacin is one of the powerful detoxifying agents known to man.

Do not panic if you turn red or your heart beats rapidly when you take pure niacin because this is a good sign that your blood is pure and toxins are being removed. Some people take as much as 500-mg. niacin three times a day until they break through their toxins and feel a burn. And the less food you have in your stomach, the quicker the niacin will get into your bloodstream to do its work. While detoxing, begin taking 50 to 100 mg. Niacin and increase by 50 to 100 mg. daily until an immediate flush occurs. Some people get a stomachache when taking niacin on an empty tummy, so judge for yourself what works best for you. Just know it’s removing toxins from your blood.

Remember this general rule of thumb: if you have more toxins than niacin, you may not feel a burn through your skin. As you increase your daily niacin intake, you are increasing the amount of B3 in relation to your toxic load. When you have more niacin than toxins present, you WILL feel the burn within ten to twenty minutes after taking it.

Niacin is not found in corn, and people on a corn-based diet are usually deficient in B3. By 1942, niacin was added to enriched flour and other commercial products.

Niacin is proven to regulate blood sugar levels, is needed in the synthesis of sex hormones, and detoxifies the body of certain drugs and chemicals. It is necessary for normal mental function, and is necessary for red blood cell formation and blood circulation. B3 lowers cholesterol and is a vasodilator. It assists in the maintenance of skin, nerve, and blood vessels.

B3 is involved in the normal secretion of bile and stomach fluids and is needed for the production of hydrochloric acid, critical for proper food digestion. Like the other B vitamins, B3 helps the body metabolize carbohydrates, fats, and protein.

Individuals who are highly toxic, suffer with disease, or drink alcohol daily have an increased need for vitamin B3. Because they do not metabolize the vitamin efficiently, elderly people and individuals with hyperthyroidism also need higher doses of niacin.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE NIACIN FLUSH

You may not be prepared for the ‘Niacin Flush.’ I know a woman who drove in a panic straight to her doctor’s office after taking her first dose of niacin fearing she was having a heart attack. Her doctor typically did not know what a niacin flush is, and told her that she was ‘allergic’ to the niacin. Her doctor scheduled her for a lung x-ray and breathing analysis because her niacin reaction initially made her short of breath. I wish she had called me first! My client discovered that it was simply the niacin removing toxins from her lungs and blood stream, as her lung x-ray and the many expensive lab tests her doctor had her do showed her lungs were clear.

Rest assured, niacin reactions don’t cause heart attacks or breathing difficulties under normal conditions, but you must be aware that a true niacin flush is a very different experience the first time you have one. It is not uncommon for your heart to race, your skin to turn red like a sunburn, your body temperature to increase, and you may even break a sweat while you feel an adrenaline rush. This is one reason I recommend taking niacin shortly before an exercise workout, a hot shower, sex, a sauna, or steam bath. If your pores are open and your blood is flowing in an energetic manner, the niacin will quickly remove any toxins it has picked up in the blood and easily escort them out of your body through the pores of the skin. You may or may not react uncomfortably, but you can be assured the niacin is picking up toxins – that’s what you’re feeling.

Note: Do NOT use time released or flush-free niacin. This is a less natural form of niacin and stresses the liver. You preferably want to use pure niacin that will activate immediately so you will know the present degree of toxicity and how to adjust your dosage.

If you have more toxins in your body than niacin, you will not feel a flush, but if have more niacin present in the blood opposed to toxins, you will feel a flush. The stronger the flush, the better. At this point, begin cutting back on the milligrams of niacin.

It's a rush to flush, and remember toxins are exiting your bloodstream through your pores.

A Rolling Stone Gets Throat Cancer

Throat cancer is also called laryngeal cancer. The larynx is situated just above the trachea (windpipe) on the way to the lungs. The larynx contains the vocal cords.

The Story: Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts is being treated for throat cancer. Watts reportedly stopped smoking some years ago but he can be seen smoking in footage of the band from the 1960s.

The Importance Of Enzymes

Enzyme therapy is an important and critical step in restoring health, especially when recovering from cancer. Enzymes help to remedy digestive problems and are critical in the elimination of all toxins from the body. If not eliminated properly, toxins build-up and worsen disease. Cancer cells release waste as all cells do, and it is critical that cancer waste products are properly excreted from the body.

PLANT ENZYMES

Plant enzymes and pancreatic enzymes are used to improve digestion and to aid in the absorption of essential nutrients. They are found naturally in a healthy whole food diet. Enzymes are the ‘substances that make life possible.’ No vitamin, mineral, nor hormone can function without the presence of enzymes. Enzymes literally ‘build’ the body using proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Without the aid of enzymes, the body cannot properly utilize any required nutrients.

Plant enzymes stimulate the digestive system. Pancreatic enzymes work for proper function of both the digestive system and the immune system. With proper digestion, which includes efficient elimination, many acute and chronic diseases can be prevented all together.

THE DIGESTIVE PROCESS

The human body manufactures approximately twenty different digestive enzymes. These enzymes digest protein, carbohydrates, sugars, and fats. When you eat, you digest your food in stages. Digestion begins in the mouth. This is one reason why you shouldn’t drink during a meal; the fluid washes away the initial digestive enzymes. Digestion then moves into the stomach, and finally passes through the small intestine. During each stage of digestion, specific enzymes break down the different types of foods.

This digestive process ideally remains magically balanced throughout the body. At each point along the way, a different degree of acidity allocates which enzymes function while others are not needed. Your body knows exactly what to do and when to do it given the right tools. Tools such as natural foods saturated with enzymes.

PLANT ENZYMES

Plant enzymes are derived from the plants you eat. They can also be supplied through natural supplements, but only substitute those enzymes found naturally in food. It is best to eat your enzymes, but if you aren’t eating enough enzymes, supplement with the natural plant enzymes themselves.

Plant enzymes become active in the mouth and in the stomach. Fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds provide plentiful plant enzymes. Eating raw foods or supplementing food enzymes can aid in thirty percent of protein digestion and help digest ten percent of the fat you eat in less than one hour. The body knows what to do when fed properly.

Cooking destroys plant enzymes. Plant enzymes are more heat sensitive than vitamins. They are the first to be destroyed above 118o Fahrenheit.

Proper chewing of food also helps enzymes begin immediate digestion. Chewing liberates cellulase, one of the plant enzymes found in food. If you don’t chew properly, the cellulase is never released. Cellulase is also lacking in packaged foods because of processing. Some supermarkets and salad bars spray fresh fruits and vegetables with sulfites, which destroy the cellulase enzyme. Carryout and fast foods contain no cellulase.

PANCREATIC ENZYMES

Pancreatic enzymes are animal derived enzymes that work hard in the intestines and within the blood. Amylase is a pancreatic enzyme. Enzyme supplements aid digestion in the intestines by sharing the workload of the body’s own pancreatic enzymes active there. They do not, however, work in the stomach, the domain of the plant enzymes. If plant enzymes are not adequately digesting food in the stomach, pancreatic enzymes pick up the extra workload, placing stress on the intestines. The better your food is digested within the mouth and stomach, the easier it is on your intestines.

Pancreatic enzymes, whether from food or natural supplements, promote health by more efficiently converting food to usable nutrients and energy, which is the sole purpose for eating.

ENZYMES AND CANCER

Too much undigested protein escaping from the small intestines into the bloodstream can cause disease. This protein is attacked in the blood as if an invader. Circulating immune complexes (CIC’s) form, making you sick. This is where healthy pancreatic enzymes come into play. They break down the CIC’s so they can pass through the kidneys for proper excretion. Because of their ability to ‘clean out’ foreign proteins, pancreatic enzymes can also purge infections, viruses, and scar tissue, and aid in the defeat of cancerous tumors.

Pancreatic enzymes expose toxins at the site of disease cells. Here, the toxins are identified as foreign substances and then destroyed by the body’s own natural immune system. When cancerous cells, for example, shed toxins, pancreatic enzymes help destroy the residue in the bloodstream preventing toxic circulation throughout the body. Elimination is critical when healing an illness.

Pancreatic enzymes also stimulate natural killer cells, T-cells, and anticancer agents. These enzymes actually enter disease cells in their reproductive phase where they are not completely formed and are more susceptible to being destroyed. Vitamin A increases this effect because it releases enzymes in the digestive system. The combination of the two digestive enzymes has been known to dissolve malignant tumors.

DIGESTION ISN’T JUST IN THE STOMACH

Let me share a story about why enzymes are so important.

Bill was a cab driver who experimented over a period of years with various nutrients from the health food store. Taking one vitamin at a time, he’d see how they affected his health. One evening he reported what he thought were unrelated events.

Bill had taken some pancreatic enzymes and his nasal allergies cleared up. His question, ‘Could digestive enzymes be effecting his nasal passages?’

Another way to phrase this question,‘Can digestion of foreign protein take place in the nasal passages or other tissues in the body outside of the digestive tract?’ Yes, it can.

Pollen is approximately fifty-percent protein. When it enters the body, this or any other foreign protein will cause toxic reactions if not properly detoxified or properly digested. Foreign or undigested protein is highly toxic to the body.

There is no reason that the process of digestion must be confined to the digestive tract. On the contrary, there is abundant biological proof that proteins can be digested (broken down into their constituent amino acids) anywhere the proteolytic, or protein digesting enzymes, are present under the right conditions of temperature, moisture, etc. Thus, digestive enzymes could effectively digest foreign protein anywhere in the body if these enzymes are present and in contact with these foreign proteins. Therefore, these proteolytic enzymes are an integral and necessary part of the immune system.

So, digestion can take place anywhere in the body where these enzymes are found.

It is well known that these enzymes are produced in the pancreas and enter the small intestines just below the stomach through the common bile duct where they do digest the foreign protein going through the intestinal tract. What is not well known is that the normal healthy person produces an excess of these enzymes over and above the amount needed for digestion of food protein, and that the excess is picked up by the blood and carried to every cell in the body. These enzymes are found in the blood of all normal, healthy people.

ALLERGIES AND CANCER

People with allergies appear to develop cancer at a much higher rate than people who are relatively free from allergies. This correlation is better understood when it is realized that both are caused by toxicity in the body. Statistically speaking, there is never any cancer at the juncture of the common bile duct and the small intestine. There is certainly cancer above this point in the mouth, esophagus, and stomach. There is cancer below this point in both the small and large intestines, but there is a curious relationship here. In direct proportion, the further down the intestinal tract from the common bile duct, the greater the incidence of cancer.

What enters the intestines through the common bile duct that has such potent anti-cancer effect?

The protein digestive enzymes.

ENZYMES AND CANCER

Pancreatic enzymes can be found in the blood of the normal healthy person, but they cannot be found in the blood of the cancer patient. The enzyme producing capacity of the cancer patient has been reduced and/or is overloaded by the food proteins that are using up the total proteolytic enzyme output so that none remain to be picked up by the blood.

Vegetarians have a much lower incidence of cancer than do meat eaters because they are not overloading their digestive capacity. People on a high protein diet require more hydrochloric acid producing capacity in the stomach and a higher output of proteolytic enzymes than do vegetarians.

Statistics support the fact that fifty percent of Americans over forty do not produce enough acid in the stomach. These same figures are accurate for enzyme production as well.

Foods containing natural enzymes are: • Citrus Fruits • Tomatoes • Pineapple • Cranberries

Citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, papaya and kiwi, tomatoes, pineapple, and cranberries contain the digestive enzymes needed for proper food assimilation. ‘Eat them anyway you can’: canned or fresh, juiced or dried. Just remember to eat one serving with every meal because these foods aid natural digestion.

GOOD DIGESTION

Many health problems start with improper digestion. Good digestion is where proper nutrition begins! Always strive to eat the best foods you can afford to purchase, but if you’re not digesting your foods and breaking them down into their vitamin and natural nutrient contents, your body won’t benefit from the nutrition it requires from food. The same concept applies to vitamin and mineral supplements, and to herbs. If you do not assimilate them in the stomach, they do you little good.

In the past, daily meals included at least one food from the following: baked ham with pineapple, fish served with lemon, turkey with cranberries, and lamb with red wine. Foods rich in digestive enzymes should accompany every meal. This is the way the body naturally digests what is eaten. No more heartburn, indigestion, and acid stomach churning and bubbling its way back up your throat. These ‘acid reflux’ conditions usually result from eating too much over-cooked food without proper natural digestive enzymes to help aid in their digestion.

Indigestion, you say? Drink apple cider vinegar in water. One-tablespoon of vinegar to one-cup water. Hold your nose if you have to, but get as much of the solution down as you can. One glass of a rich red wine will do the same thing for poor digestion. Nature has always provided natural digestive aids.

STOMACH ACID IS A GOOD THING

Years ago, scientists experimented in the laboratory trying to recreate artificial stomach acids. The researchers took a raw piece of meat and dropped various acids on it, attempting to break it apart. Nothing could dissolve the slab of meat, not even the strongest acids available. The acids put holes in the meat, but nothing dismantled the muscle into mush. The stomach, however, contains the most powerful acids on Earth; acids capable of dissolving raw meat in less than forty-five minutes. And not by destroying it, but by dissolving it into a usable resource of nutrients. No scientist has ever duplicated the powerful capabilities of the stomach itself.

The lining of the stomach is so strong, it protects the potent acids it contains from escaping into the body. The stomach is lined with miraculous mucin cells. If the lining wears thin, a hole will form, permitting the acids an exit. This can create a burning sensation and stomach ‘ulcers.’ The mucin lining can easily be replaced and repaired by eating foods that produce mucin.
